If you want quick text formatting, there are 10 built-in text styles that you apply with Ctrl+n, n = 0-9. (You can even open the SAME notebook in different instances, but of course it is not recommended.) There is an option to allow multiple instances, so can open multiple notebooks, each notebook in a separate instance. ![]() For simple spreadsheets, this is all I need. It has 4 different types of notes, including a spreadsheet note that has many functions like in Excel, plus an "Evernote" note. With RightNote, you can make essentially an unlimited number of indents (subnotes). However, I find it much better to place the files into a relevant folder on the thumbdrive, then create a link in the note to the file.Ī you know, you are limited to 3 levels of indent with OneNote not enough for me. Like with OneNote, I can embed files into notes. I have several folders to organize a wide variety of topics. I keep my portable version on a 64GB thumb drive. If you run Evernote, you can use it for syncing your RightNote files, plus use some of the Evernote features. If you use services like Google Drive, you can sync your notebooks with your hard drive. Just unpack the zip file wherever, and run from there. I opted for the Pro version ($60), that I bought with a discount coupon for much less. Also a free version, but it lacks some note types that you might want. If you are a Windows user, give RightNote a try. Google also definitively lets you enter data into your drive for access on pretty much any device. If you or anyone else loves Evernote then good for you, I just haven’t had great experiences with it that would make me want to choose that over Google Suite that has more features and utilities, and is even more friendly. I feel Evernote doesn’t reach my personal needs after spending substantial time and resources trying to make it work for me. I frequently use excel style sheets to create tables with formulas, embed pictures and link references, and have bits of info I want shared as easily as possible. Meaning it is a hassle to share notes, import and export from and to different apps or sources, and you almost entirely have to switch everything you do to Evernote if you want to avoid redundancy or duplicating effort. ![]() My personal beef is that Evernote doesn’t “play nice” with other programs. I wish there was a magic bullet!Įvernote will let you enter info in and sync it across platforms and devices that are using Evernote so if you use the app on all systems then it shouldn’t cause issues. Best of luck from someone who's still learning the pros and cons of each of these tools. This is going to be a journey you take on your own to find the right mix of tools that work for you, your group, and your style of DM'ing though. I may end up going with the new Google Sites + G Suite (Docs and Sheets primarily) because it should give me a simple interface to quickly access my files. I moved everything to Google Apps at that point because I use GSuite for my work so much that it's like my right hand tool and that worked for a good long while.īecause I wanted something that had some "flair" to it and organized documents a bit easier, I went to OneNote, but now I'm not so sure it was the best move because it's hard to have multiple things open at once which means a lot of hyperlinking or flipping between notebook pages which can be annoying.įor my players, I'm tracking everything in Obsidian Portal (even though it's a bit of a mess at 's a good tool for the price). However, the thing was software based which meant when I had a good was hard to capitalize on it in the moment and quickly reference something else. I originally had it in Scrivener because there was a great way to create templates for things like NPCs, Towns, Encounters, Statblocks, etc. I've moved my campaign all over the place.
